Patrick Joseph  “P-Dub” Walsh

Resident of Santa Cruz

 

P-Dub has cleared the breakwater!  Patrick died peacefully at the age of 86.  A celebration of his large and lovely life  will be held at a later date (tba). Known, affectionately (sometimes), as P-Dub, Big Pat, Patrick, Pat, and best of all, Grampa Pat.  Born in Petersburg, Nebraska, he was a long-time resident of Los Gatos.  He attended Bellarmine College Prepratory and Santa Clara University, after serving 4 years in the US Navy during the Korean war.  A longtime member of the Los Gatos Rotary Club and Jaycees and Santa Cruz Yacht Club, he cherished the many lifelong friendships made throughout the years with those groups. For the past 5 years, he resided in Santa Cruz where he was a much-loved character at the De Anza Mobile Home Estates, dressing up as Santa for the last 2 Christmases.

 

Dad loved his family, fiercely.  He challenged us to push our limits, even when we were scared out of our minds.  A favorite P-Dub story was when he told his son, Tom, “Tommy, I taught you everything you know” (regarding sailing). To which Tom replied, “No, Dad.  You taught me everything YOU know”.  Pretty much sums it up.  He has left a huge hole in our lives and hearts.  We will miss him, fiercely…

 

P-Dub retired as a transportation manager following a 50 year career in commercial trucking. Many fond memories will continue to be shared by his family of his love for surfing, and sailing, and the R.V trips to Baja California.

 

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in law; Jill and Gary Fusari, Becky and Dan Nutt all of Santa Cruz; his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Chantal Walsh of Anchorage, Alaska.

 

7 Grandchildren, Paige Nutt-Smith, Zack Fusari, Jake Fusari, Megan Nutt, Sophie Walsh, Zan Walsh and Marshall Walsh.

7 Great Grandchildren, Indiana Smith, Roxon Fusari, Pixie Smith, Sander Padilla, Isla Fusari, Madison Fusari, Axel Padilla and 2 more on the way.

 

P-Dub was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia in 2000.
