I always appreciated the smile Harry had for me. I'm also grateful for his conversations, which went in interesting and unpredictable directions, forwards and backwards about our lives and the state of things. We tended to have these after he hosted me as a guest speaker in his Cabrillo College classes. He wanted his students to hear my poetry and my creative works. He strived to help them connect to what they learned in his classroom and to how it augmented what they already knew. In a word, he empowered. His students seemed to respect him. But there were always one or two who hung on his every word, stayed late to talk with him, and walked slowly away waving goodbye after Harry closed the door behind us. Harry held their stories (some he shared with me) and had a smile for them too. I've moved away from the West Coast and have been head down in my life for years. But, I searched to find Harry to share news of my first published book or poems. I'm so sorry, Harry. And to his friends and family, I'm sorry for your loss and for my delay in sharing this message (even as I'm grateful for this resource so I may share it). I will continue to miss Harry and his way of giving.

I had the pleasure of working with Harry at the Watsonville Public Library. And we bonded on so many levels -- both UUs, librarians, caring about social justice and peace, and both sharing a similar sense of humor. I saw Harry throughout the years after, but not as much as I would have liked. He was a wonderful man, a real Mensch, and I'm happy to have called him my friend.
Much love to all others who miss him,
Andrea Webster
