Janet Prawitz

Obituary of Janet H Prawitz

Our dear mother, Janet Prawitz, passed away after a lengthy illness. She was born in San Francisco, California to Gladys and Avery Hicks, and was raised there with her younger brother, Phillip Hicks. Jan graduated from Stanford University. In 1954, after initially meeting on a blind date, she married George L.S. Emmons. Together they lovingly raised 4 children, Kent, Pam, Brian and Patti. In 1965, the family moved to Aptos, California, where Jan worked in banking for 22 years. She enjoyed traveling all over the world (Hawaii was her favorite destination), doing needlework and jigsaw puzzles, bowling, actively participating at Christ Lutheran Church for almost 50 years, listening to and supporting Dixieland Monterey, watching the SF Giants and SF 49ers play, eating at Red Apple Café, Aptos, and above all else, spending time with her family. Family was her number one priority. She loved every one of us unconditionally. After 36 years of marriage, George passed away in 1990.  In 2005, she married Leeland R. Prawitz.

Jan is survived by her brother and his wife, Phillip and Mary Lou Hicks; her devoted husband, Leeland; as well as her 4 children and their spouses who loved her so; Kent and Jeanne Emmons of Danville, Ca, Pam and Dean Freeman of Santa Cruz, Ca, Brian and Molly Emmons of Haleiwa, Hi, and Patti and Charlie Leber of Aptos, Ca. Additionally, she leaves 13 grandchildren who adored her; Rory and Casey, Alaina, Brandon, Carly, Sean, Mike and Erin, Alyssa and Ken, Matt and Jenny, Stephen, Nick, Chris and Grace, Bryson, and Tristan. She was blessed with 8 great grandchildren; Asher, Kate, Alex, Farrah, Ellie, Benny, Molly and Jimmy. Lee’s family survive her as well; daughter, Cheryl Prawitz; grand-daughter, Sonja Calderon; and great grandchildren, Sienna and Alana.

A private family service will be held. Her ashes will be placed in a niche with her mother, at Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Prayer Garden. The ceremony of Placing of the Ashes will be at 11:15 am on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Christ Lutheran of Aptos. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations made to Christ Lutheran Church, Hospice of Santa Cruz County, or American Cancer Society.  For further details please refer to the website of www.pacificgardenschapel.com
