Obituary of Sadie Mae Hamilton

Sadie Hamilton passed away peacefully on Saturday morning June 8th in her home in Soquel, with her loving family at her side. She was 88 years old. Sadie was born in Fresno, CA on January 19, 1925 to Gladys and Henry Dahl. Sadie lived in Madera and worked at Parkwood Bowl & Madera Bowl prior to moving to Santa Cruz in 1962. She then worked at Capitola Bowl, Surf Bowl, and Art & Walt's Garbini Inn. It was at Garbini's that she met Dean Hamilton, her loving husband and best friend of 38 years. For 16 years they lived in Medford, OR. It was here that she became an avid golfer, even hitting a hole in one. She eventually moved back to Santa Cruz to be close to family, and she continued bowling until she was 86 years old. To Sadie the most important things in her life were her family. She enjoyed watching her sons, grandsons and great grandsons play baseball, from little league to high school. She loved cooking her special Cioppino every Christmas for her ever growing family. She enjoyed so many things in life, baking, sewing, reading and creating things. She had a great love for the Giants and 49er's, especially Pablo (Panda) Sandoval, Joe Montana and Steve Young. Sadie is preceded in death by her parents, and her three sisters Edna Gokey, Marge Lofgren, and Audrey Stanton. She will be greatly missed by her surviving family members including; Her husband Dean Hamilton of Soquel; her children, Peggy Talbot of Watsonville, Allen (Robin) Volpa Jr. of Clovis, William (Nancy) Whitman of Soquel, Gary Whitman of Phoenix, AZ, Dean (Joan) Hamilton of Ben Lomond, & Deborah (Gary) Bailey of American Canyon; her grandchildren, Denise Kincade (Filbert Lopez) of Watsonville, John Talbot of Capitola, Michelle Doucette of Bothell, WA, Dennis (Heather) Rush, Nathan (Deana) Rush both of Santa Cruz, Allen (Shawna) Volpa III of Morro Bay, Truely (Chris) Turner, Nicole (Tony) Hernandez of Fresno, Heather Volpa of San Luis Obispo, Desiree Volpa, Billy Volpa of Fresno, David (Kristen) Whitman, Paula Lucht of Arizona, Shannon (Jason) Cox of Ukiah, Lauren Hamilton of Berkeley and Jonathon (Stephanie) Bailey of Blaine, MN. She is also survived by her 33 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, with 5 generations of girls twice in her lifetime. There will be no services, but donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
