I had the pleasure of working for Mr. Whiting's company for over 9 years when I was a young. All of my interactions with Ted were positive, and I always felt when he entered the room that a teacher was holding class-- he had a way of captivating you in conversation in a very vibrant and tangible way. I admired and respected him greatly.
His legacy, reflected in the integrity of his business and the genuine lovingness of his family, is his greatest contribution to this world.
My deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones who will forever miss him on Earth. I believe there was much rejoicing in Heaven for those who preceeded him in death and welcomed him home.

I had one summer of working for Ted at number one more than forty years ago but I will never forget what a good boss he was to a 19 year old neophyte in the working world. I've often thought of his good balance of kindness and sternness. He has left an amazing legacy. I send my condolences to those who will miss him in their daily lives and also to those who have such good memories of him, as I do.

Ted,
Thank you for being such a good role model, mentor and family friend for many years. I always enjoyed you and Esther through my childhood. I still cherish the times you took me fishing for trout and salmon or just down to the Boardwalk for slice of pizza. Thinking back, you introduced me to many things like: Tab cola, dry rye crackers, pizza by the slice next to the bumper cars, and SOL beer! I guess that was all part of the package! I will think of you often, and will continue to keep an eye on the cabin for your kin. Rest in peace old friend, you will be missed.

What a wonderful Man! The first time I met Ted was at Sunny's Deli in the Yatch Harbor. He came in, and I was the new hire be introduced to the man himself! With a great big loud boming John Wayne Voice he yelled at me,,"What was your name?" I told him Erin Smith,,"You born here in Santa Cruz?", "Yes" I replied shacking all over,,,"Who are your parents?",,I told him,,,With a big smile on his face he laughed, "I know your dad, your mother, your aunts, uncles, brothers, and grandparents,,,so don't screw up!" I loved that man, he was full of life and wisdom and treated me as an equal, not just some one who worked for him,,,my life is all the richer for knowing him,,,I pray for peace and healing for the family and for them to know how truly and deeply Ted is loved. Mrs. Erin K. Deiters

Mr. Whiting was single handed in shaping thousands of people's lives. Mr Whiting instilled in his family and his employees passion for true and honest work. How many successful people do you run into that started "at the WALK"; they got that training and zest for their job from Whitings Foods. The city lost and always should remember our city founding businessmen. Take a walk on the WALK.

Family of Ted Whiting, Jr.
I desire to express my condolences to all of the family in the loss of this wonderful and memorable person.
My association with Ted was in the mid-1950's when I first came in touch with him and then worked for Whiting's in the summer's of 1958 and 1959 at Store #1.
I still have vivid memories of our work conversations but many with him in seeking advice on life in the world for an 18-19 year young person. His advice hit right on the mark as when I came across those things that he suggested how to deal with I had good success.
Additionally, there were many conversations of him cracking jokes and kept me and everyone on the Whiting Team upbeat when he visted the stores.
One could go on to elaborate on the many memorable events and I can still vividly see them in my mind's eye.
Thanks Ted for all the things you shared with me and helped me with.

We all remember your Father with great fondness. I will forever hear his voice with the question, " Wie geht's"?
Your Mom was possibly standing at the Pearly Gates ready to receive him. And now they are exchanging all the latest news.May he rest in peace.
