Jacqueline Reed

Obituary of Jacqueline Virginia Reed

Jacqueline Virginia Reed September 3, 1927 - November 17, 2011 Jackie passed peacefully from this life on November 17, 2011, at the age of 84. Born in Los Angeles, she was the oldest daughter of Charles and Edith Reed. Jackie lived in California all of her life. She grew up in San Carlos and, as an adult, lived in Burlingame and Sunnyvale. Typically quiet and reserved, she spoke fondly about the days when she and her girlfriend would take the train to go to the USO dances in San Francisco. She loved the music, dancing with the sailors, and the excitement of that time. As a young woman she worked for the airlines for awhile and enjoyed traveling to faraway places. She lived her last 22 years in Santa Cruz. Jackie was artistically talented and even at a young age was able to draw Disney characters with remarkable likeness. Her appreciation of the beauty found in nature came through in her paintings; especially in those of the Monterey Coast. During her middle years, Jackie found a relationship with God that changed the course of her life. A devout Christian, she told anyone who would listen about her faith in hopes that they, too, could find such joy. She longed to be in Heaven and was mystified that it was taking so long to get there. Her beauty, grace and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Jackie is survived by her sister, Joan Newman; her nieces, Cherie Alexander and Kathy Sturgis; her nephews, Kevin Mazzocco, Steven Snider, and David Snider; nine great nieces & great nephews and six great-great nieces & great-great nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Reed, on December 06, 1958 and her mother, Edith Reed, on January 06, 2000, and her sister, Joyce Mazzocco, on December, 14, 2008. In accordance with her wishes there will be no funeral service. A private family gathering will be held. The family would like to thank the staff of Kindred Santa Cruz Health Care Center for their loving care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jackie's honor to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
