Dorothy Sinclair

Obituary of Dorothy Janet Sinclair

July 31, 1917 – November 17, 2017 Long-time Resident of Woodland, CA. And Santa Cruz Dorothy was born in Auburn, California to Margaret and Joseph Ringwood. She attended local schools and business school in Sacramento where she met her future husband, F. Marvin Fratis. They were married on February 23, 1941 and moved to Woodland, California where, together, they owned and operated the Yolo County Credit Bureau. They had their first child, Michael, in 1944 and daughter, Kathleen, in 1947. Every summer, they would vacation in Santa Cruz and loved it so much, they moved their family to Santa Cruz in 1955. In 1971, her husband of 30 years, passed away and she returned to Woodland to manage the Credit Bureau that they leased out prior to moving to Santa Cruz. It was there that she was reacquainted with a family friend, Clyde Sinclair. They married in 1972. Clyde passed away 2001 and Dorothy remained in Woodland until her family moved her back to Santa Cruz in 2008 to be near them. She leaves many friends at Sunshine Villa Assisted Living where she recently moved to in 2016. At 100 years of age, Dorothy brought sunshine into the lives of both the residents and staff. She was loved by all who knew her and attributes her longevity to continually "seeing the cup half full!" Dorothy enjoyed sewing, knitting, golf, fishing and traveling. Many fond memories will continue to be shared of the family trips on the Rogue River, and her love for playing solitaire. Dorothy would at times play up to 2 dozen games of solitaire per day, keeping her mind sharp and clear, while enjoying her daily martini! She was an accomplished stock market player, and an active member of WIGS (Women's Investment Group). Her family was of paramount importance in her long and blessed life. She enjoyed witnessing all of her grandchildren's and great grandchildren's accomplishments unfold and was extremely proud of them. She is survived by her son Michael Fratis (Carmel), daughter Kathleen Norvell (David); her grandchildren, Jenna Norvell (Tony Torres), Jonathan Norvell (Seana) and Aaron Fratis. She also leaves six great-grandchildren: Stella, David, Julian, Vivian, Clara, and Naomi. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin, second husband Clyde, sister Elsie Foster, and many dear friends. There will be a martini party at a later time to celebrate this beautiful woman. Please visit the Benito and Azarro homepage to share your thoughts and reflections with her family.
