Obituary of Harold Edward Milburn

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Capitola on April 8, 2014 for Harold "Hal" Milburn who passed away at Dominican Hospital on March 21, 2014 from complications of cardiac disease. He was 79 years old. Hal was born in Minimum, Missouri and raised in Arcadia, Missouri, he graduated from the University of Missouri in 1953 and then served his country in the US Marine Corps. Hal then began careers in the dairy business and small furniture marketing, followed by a 48 year long career in benefits business; including life, health, and disability. He served a term as president of the San Jose Life Underwriters from 1975 to 1977. He and his wife, Dianne met in Seattle in 1963 where she was working as a nurse, and they married later that year. Their son Joseph was born in San Mateo in 1964; their son John, in San Jose in 1966, and Jeff in 1974, in Campbell, CA. Hal and Dianne later moved to Capitola; retiring to Aptos six years ago. While residing in the Santa Cruz area, Hal was active in the community volunteering as Cub Master for area Cub Scouts. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church; serving as a Eucharistic Minister, and also an active volunteer with the church's youth group. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Dianne Milburn of Aptos, son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Rebecca and their children, Jacob and Leah; his sons John Milburn of Susanville, CA; and Jeff Milburn of Monterey. Hal also leaves his brother-in-law, Dr. Mike Fleming of Omaha, Nebraska, and sister-in-law, Lorene Mayberry of Pacific, Missouri. We wish to thank cardiologist, Dr. Benjamin Potkin and hospitalist, Andrew Wu for their very kind and professional care; and also wish to include all of Hal's caregivers for their compassionate care in a very busy unit. Family and friends will gather to celebrate the mass on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Community (435 Monterey Ave.) in Capitola, beginning at 11 a.m. Any kind acts of charity can be made in Hal's memory to a charity of your choice.
