Obituary of Guadalupe Davila Chavez

After a lengthy battle, and surrounded at home by family, Guadalupe ("Lupe") Davila Chavez, 72, succumbed to Leukemia on the morning of August 20, 2012. Her husband of 51 years, Manuel, was by her side. She is survived by her husband, Manuel Villegas Chavez; her mother, Antonia Huerta Ortega; her four brothers, Jesus, Juan, Roque and Manuel (aka "Menny"); two sisters, Andrea and Rosario; four children, Jose (Audrey), Luis, Javier and Yolanda; her grandchildren, Nadine (Guillermo Lopez), Natalie, Luis "Louie", Benjamin, Amanda, Yesenia, Isaac, Jacqui, George, and Sarah; and her great grandkids, Victor and Andres. Guadalupe was born in Villa Nueva, Zacatecas, Mexico in January 1940. She married her sweetheart Manuel, and in 1961 moved to Davenport, north of Santa Cruz. About ten years later, she and their growing family moved to Santa Cruz on the West side. She spent most of her adult life as a homemaker, although she also intermittently worked outside the home, notably at Charmwick Candle Factory. Including her own four children, over the years she raised her granddaughters Nadine and Natalie. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing, and growing flowers, especially fragrant roses. She attended Holy Cross Church. She is preceded in death by her father, Antonio Gonzalez Davila. A very special thanks from the family to Irma for helping care for our mom. A viewing will be held for Lupe on Thursday, August 23rd at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz from 3pm-7pm at which time a Rosary Service will take place. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 24th at Holy Cross Church, 126 High St., Santa Cruz, beginning at 1pm.
