Obituary of Socorro Martinez

Socorro Martinez passed away suddenly after a brief illness on November 12, 2013 at Dominican Hospital. She was 54. She was born in Salvatierra, Mexico on June 16, 1959, the daughter of Jose Luz Martinez and Margarita Hernandez. She was raised in Mexico, living in Salvatierra and Andocutin, Gto and also Mexico City. She came to the United States in 1991 living in Santa Cruz, Castroville and Greenfield. She was described by her family as a very hard and dedicated worker and generous giver. Her presence brought life to every room due to her infectious smile and laughter. She enjoyed reading, movies, knitting and playing games. She loved to dance. She is survived by her daughter, Juana Moreno and her son, Luis Moreno; eight sisters and brothers, Maria Martinez, Arturo Martinez, Rosa Martinez, Jose Luis Martinez, Armando Martinez, Jose Luz Martinez, Ana Martinez and Silvia Martinez. She is also survived by eleven nieces, 6 nephews and four aunts. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margarita Hernandez in 1962, her father, Jose Luz Martinez in 1984 and her brother, Jose Luis Martinez in 1969. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 515 Frederick St., Santa Cruz, CA on Monday Nov. 18, 2013 at 10:00 am. A vigil service will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St, Santa Cruz on Sunday evening at 7pm. Visitation will be on Saturday from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and on Sunday from 3:00pm until the vigil service at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
