Obituary of John Nello Olivieri

Services will be in Santa Cruz on Wednesday, for John Olivieri who passed away peacefully at his Santa Cruz home on January 11, 2012. Born in Santa Cruz, Mr. Olivieri was 94 years old. Mr. Olivieri has lived in Santa Cruz for his entire life. Following his high school graduation, he served his country in the US Army during WW II. Mr. Olivieri, earning the rank of 1st Sergeant, saw action in New Guinea, Japan, Australia, and Hawaii. Upon returning to Santa Cruz, he worked various jobs throughout the county as a baker, Us Postal Service, truck driver, and retired following a 23 year career as a beer salesman with Filice Distributions. Mr. Olivieri was a member of the Marconi Club, Italian Catholic Federation, and served as an usher at his Holy Cross Church parish. He will be remembered by his family as a very kind man, volunteered his time at the Senior Center, and visited the sick. He had a passion for dancing and big band music, and was very devoted to his reciting of the Holy Rosary daily. He is survived by his daughter, Corlyce Olivieri of Santa Cruz, his son, Greg Olivieri of Redwood City, and a host of loving cousins and extended family living in the San Joaquin Valley. Committal services with military honors will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery (2271 7th Ave.) in Santa Cruz on Wednesday January 18, 2012, beginning at 11 a.m. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
