Obituary of Laura Marie Cook

Laura leaves behind her nephew John Vieira (Suzanne), Great nephew, Darren Vieira (Dawn), Great, great niece and nephew, Jayden and Darren Joshua Vieira, Godson, George DeGroote, his mother Gladys and family. She also leaves behind 3 nieces, MaryAnn Hill, Carmen Eisenhower, and Elaine Aspen and sister-in-law, Rosie Livingston and numerous family and friends. Laura leaves behind her sister-in-law and best friend, Mary Vieira. They lived together for the last 18 years and were known affectionately as "The Golden Girls". Laura was born in East Providence, Rhode Island May 24, 1923 and was raised by her parents Antonio and Maria Vieira. The family then moved to California in 1939. She then lived in Newman, CA where her brother John and her owned J & L Caf. She spent most of her career working for JC Penney as a credit manager. Later in life she moved to Corralitos, CA where she lived with her sister-in-law, Mary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel Cook, brothers, Tony and John Vieira. Laura was a passionate animal lover who treasured her time with her cats and dogs. She also was an avid bowler and leaves behind many of her bowling partners. She loved to gamble and take trips to Las Vegas. Laura loved to take pictures of her family and share them with all her friends. She loved her family and was proud of all of them. All who knew Laura will remember her spirited personality and amazing ability to tell a great joke. Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Resurrection Church in Aptos, 7600 Soquel Blvd at 11 am, Wednesday, December 7th. A celebration of her life will follow at Severino's in Aptos. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Humane Society would be appreciated. The family would like to send a special thanks to Hospice, Watsonville Community Hospital and Dr. O'Grady for their kind hearts and care of Laura.
