Obituary of Robert Allen Ray

Robert Allen Ray, passed away on May 26, 2012 at a local convalescent hosptial. He was 80. Bob was born in Oakland, California on April 10, 1932. He was one of five children born to Ralph Ray and Kathleen (Hogan) Ray. He came to Santa Cruz as an infant where he grew up, attending Holy Cross Elementary School and Holy Cross High School and was a graduate of the class of 1950. Bob served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War and following his honorable discharge from the Navy he returned to Santa Cruz where he began a long career with PG&E. He retired from PG&E after 41 years in 1997 at the age of 65. He enjoyed many physical activities which included, weight lifting, running and playing golf. He was a member of Gold's Gym and the Capitola Mall Walkers. He is described by his family as outgoing and friendly. Bob never met a stranger and would enter into conversation easily, and enjoyed meeting new people. He is survived by his wife, Janice Ray of Santa Cruz; four children, Michael Ray of Santa Cruz, Traci Ebert of Santa Cruz, Lynette Porter of Oregon and Jeffrey Ray of Oregon; two sisters, Kathleen Jarvis of Portola and Joyce Lazier of Santa Cruz; six grandchilren, Briana Ray and Reuben Ray of Arizona, Emmersa Ray, Ashley Porter, Marc Porter and Brittney Porter of Oregon; one greatgrandchild, Chloe of Orgeon; He is also survived by 3 step-chilren, Dan and Bruce of Santa Cruz and Shellee Hill of Washington, four step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Kathleen, his son, Brian Ray, his son-in-law, Ken Ebert and his two brothers, Ralph Ray and Harold Ray. At his request no services are planned. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzhiemer's Association in Bob's name.
