Obituary of Violet Crowell

Violet Mae Crowell Violet Mae Crowell, age 83, resident of Santa Cruz, California, succumbed to cancer on Thursday, March 8, in Sunnyvale, California. Born on August 6, 1928, in Rippon, San Joaquin County, California, to Thomas Vargas Faria and Conceicao de Fraga. Violet was preceded in death by her six siblings, Thomas Faria, Evelyn Faria, Edward Faria, Thomas Joseph Faria, Elvira Tosta, and James Faria. Violet married Lavon Llwellyn Rogers, Jr. in 1947, in San Joaquin County. Lavon Rogers died on November 11, 1979, in San Jose, California. She married Robert Ciapponi in 1980, in Santa Cruz County. Robert Ciapponi passed away 1989. She married Norman Crowell in 1991, in Santa Cruz County. Norman Crowell died January 20, 2011.Violet moved from the San Joaquin Valley to Santa Cruz in 1958. She completed her Associate of Arts degree at Cabrillo College, and worked as an administrative assistant for the Education Department at the University of California Santa Cruz for 14 years. She loved the beach and redwoods. She attended water exercise classes until the last year of her life and had many friends and family whom she held dear to her heart and who will miss her. Violet is survived by her daughter Lynda M. Rogers, Ed.D, and husband Peter McMillan of Felton, and daughter Peggy L. Jones and husband Alan Jones of Santa Cruz, and grandchildren, Bradlee Jones of Watsonville, Courtney Jones of Felton, and Dustin Jones of Santa Cruz, and great grandchildren Dusty Jones of Santa Cruz and Skylar Jones of Watsonville. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that you would donate to the Center for Biomolecular Science and Engineering (CBSE) at the University of California Santa Cruz in memory of Violet M. Crowell. The CBSE group collaborates with researchers at medical centers nationally, including members of the Stand Up To Cancer "Dream Teams" and the Cancer Genome Atlas, to discover molecular causes of cancer and pioneer a new personalized, genomics-based approach to cancer treatment. Private services were held for Violet at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
