Obituary of Gordon Alexander Maas

Gordon Alexander Maas 8/21/1949 - 6/4/13 Gordon Maas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the home of his sister, Melodie Milhoan. Melodie's husband Ron Milhoan and Gordon's dear friend Louise Betthauser were with him during his struggle with cancer and his passing. Gordon arrived in Santa Cruz in 1979 from Southern California. He worked at Santa Cruz Auto Parts until he was hired by the City of Santa Cruz to run the City Vehicle Parts Department where he worked for more than 20 years. Currently Gordon was employed at A Tool Shed Rental Company where he was employed for 5 years. Prior to that he worked for Santa Cruz State Parks. He loved all things mechanical, especially muscle cars, tools, his truck and his job. He loved the San Francisco Giants and he loved music and he especially loved his cat, Buffy who lived to be 22 years old. Gordon overcame many obstacles in his life and was clean and sober for the last 6 years. He had a wry sense of humor and was a kind and generous man who worked hard all his life and was looking forward to retirement. He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette Pauline Maas and his father, Lester William Maas. His brother Lester William Maas, Jr. lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, his sister Lorraine Perdue lives in Phoenix Arizona and his Sister, Melodie Maas Milhoan lives in Watsonville, CA. He is also survived by his son, James Maas who gave him great comfort at the end of his life and his daughter, Mary Maas, both who reside in Peekskill, New York. Gordon would like donations on his behalf to be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County and the Santa Cruz SPCA. A special thanks to the care team at Hospice, they made his final days meaningful and comfortable.
