Obituary of Patrick Cornelius McLaughlin

A memorial mass will be celebrated in Millbrae, California for Patrick McLaughlin who passed away at his Scotts Valley home on August 26, 2012 from heart failure. Born in San Jose, he was 66 years old. Pat, as he was know to most everyone, attended St. Dunstan Catholic School, and graduated from Serra High School. Pat studied at St. Joseph's Seminary in Cupertino for a time, and then served his country in the US Army. His father John McLaughlin was a well-know San Franciscan, who was responsible for the union who maintained all the landscaping and gardening in Golden Gate Park. Pat proudly followed his father's example, and had a career that spanned over 30 years as a union official. After his job took him to Anchorage, Alaska as a representative for pipeline labor, he later founded McLaughlin and Associates; a Health Benefit Consulting Firm in Aptos and Sacramento which operated from 1988 to 2001. Pat and his wife recently moved from Aptos to Scotts Valley this past year. A long time resident of the San Mateo area, he was an active parishioner of St. Dunstan Church, serving as a lector, usher, and Eucharist Minister. Pat was a devoted volunteer at the St. Dunstan School Carnival, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Although an avid hunter, angler, and golfer, his greatest passion was family. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maria McLaughlin of Scotts Valley, his daughter and son in-law, Monica and Adam Caltabiano and their children Elle and Matteo Caltabiano all of Santa Cruz. Pat also leaves his brother Michael McLaughlin of Cambria and was preceded in death by his son, Neil McLaughlin in 1998. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday Sept. 8, 2012 at St. Dunstan Church 1133 Broadway Ave. Millbrae, CA 94030, beginning at 10 a.m. A private burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sacramento, where he will be laid to rest beside his son Neil. In lieu of flowers, please have masses offered through St. Dustan Catholic Church.
