Obituary of Marjorie Sue Barnes

Marjorie Sue Barnes passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Pacific Coast Manor with her daughters and granddaughters by her side. Marjorie was born in Prairie Grove, Arkansas on December 15, 1934. Her parents, Gregory and Maude Ross, and her eleven siblings moved to California where she attended Marysville Union High School and Yuba College. Marge moved to Santa Cruz where she worked at Wrigley Gum Factory, Ideal Restaurant and Seascape Restaurant. Her husband, Phil Barnes preceded her in death in 1989. She is survived by daughters, Robin Sarabia and Brenda Rysdam, granddaughters Jennifer Majors and Bridget Sarabia, great-grandson Jaiden Max Majors, son-in-law Rene Sarabia, brother Leroy Ross and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marge and her husband Phil enjoyed traveling throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. They visited family and friends, while making new friends everywhere they went. Marge was one of the first members of the Stroke Center in Santa Cruz. She was an active member of the Light and Life Community Church and later the Santa Cruz Community Church. She was known for her servant's heart and her gift of hospitality. She offered rides, meals, visited the sick and elderly, opened her home and anywhere she could lend a hand. She was a woman of great courage and a generous heart. We are grateful for the lessons she taught us of perseverance and steadfast faith. Marge's priority in life was loving and serving her family and friends. She was devoted and we will miss her sweet example of caring and giving. If desired, donations can be made to Stroke Center-Cabrillo College Aptos. A private family gathering has been planned.
