Angelo Re

Obituary of Angelo D. Re

Born on October 15, 1933 to Italian immigrants, Fr. Angelo graduated from Bellarmine Preparatory in 1951, and from St. Patrick's Seminary in 1960. He was ordained into the priesthood on June 11, 1960, with his first parish assignment at St. Lawrence the Martyr in Santa Clara. Over the past 52 years, Fr. Angelo served at many parishes in both the San Jose and Monterey Dioceses, including St. Justin in Santa Clara and Holy Spirit in San Jose where he served as Pastor. He will be remembered by fellow clergy and parishioners for his dedication to the church, and for his vibrant and masterful homilies, which he would work on for weeks to perfect. As the youngest of 3 brothers, Fr. Angelo was given the nickname "Babe". The name stuck through later generations of the family who lovingly referred to him as "Uncle Babe". He had a famous love for dogs, and could often be found walking with one of his good friends in New Brighton Park. Fr. Angelo had a love of current events, and could be found discussing life and politics with his best friend (and brother) Sam every evening. In his final days surrounded by family, Fr. Angelo stressed that our love for each other should be our prayer to God. He will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed enough to spend time with him. Fr. Angelo is survived by his brother and sister in-law, Sam and Lorraine Re of Roseville, along with many loving nieces and nephews from multiple generations; including Gae Carpenter, Angelo Re, Sam Re, John Re, and Angela Re. He was preceded in death by his brother John in 1984, his mother Gaetana in 1984, and his father Angelo in 1997. Special Thanks goes to his niece Gae and nephew John for taking care of him during his final days. The Vigil will be at St. Anthony's Church in San Jose (20101 McKean Rd.) at 7pm Tuesday, March 20th. The Mass of the Resurrection will be at Resurrection Church in Aptos (7600 Soquel Dr.) at 10:30am on Wednesday, March 21st. He will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Los Altos, beside his brother John and parents.
