Obituary of Anibal Rivera

Anibal (Andy) Rivera Andy Rivera passed away unexpectedly on May 12, 2011 in Santa Cruz. He was 61 years old. Andy was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Jacob Rivera and Lolita Bacetty. He moved to the U.S. and graduated from North Salinas High School in 1969. Andy served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War and worked as a medic. After his time in the service, he moved back to the Salinas area and became a respiratory therapist. Later, he moved to Santa Cruz and continued his work as a respiratory therapist at Dominican Hospital. Most recently, Andy was working at Safeway as a department manager. In his free time, Andy loved to be outdoors and he also enjoyed sports. He loved fishing, skiing and surfing. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast and was a member of the Santa Cruz Hogs. Andy is survived by his children, Jeremy Rivera of Santa Cruz, Jacob Rivera of Santa Cruz, Andi Ray Lewis of Hemet, CA and Denise McIntosh of Burney Falls, CA, sister, Edna Sanchez of Salinas, brother, Ozzie Rivera of Watsonville and grandchildren, Strider Castellano and Miranda Smith. A Celebration of Life will be held for Andy on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Seacliff State Beach from 3 p.m. until sunset. Please bring pictures and stories to share.
