Obituary of Gary Zane Partlow

A farewell tribute is planned for Gary Partlow who passed away of unexpected heart failure at his Santa Cruz home on June 4th. Born at Sisters Hospital in Santa Cruz, he was 69 years old. Born at Sisters Hospital in Santa Cruz, he was 69 years old. Gary graduated from Santa Cruz High School Class of 1962, and served in the US Army Reserves. During and after high school, Gary worked at the old Andy's Auto Supply for Andy Mekis. He apprenticed and learned to be a brick mason with Jim Welty using his skills to help family and friends with their building projects. He was quite the gear head, building hot rods and customizing Harley Davidsons. The Calaveras Frog Jump was an annual event-filled trip for the Partlow Brothers and all of their friends. The "happenings" and adventures of the Columbia Street Gang were legendary. THE GOOD TIMES NEVER STOPPED! Gary relocated to Big Sur for 13 years where he was known as M.J. the Juiceman. Returning home to Santa Cruz, Gary rekindled many old friendships that he cherished for the rest of his life. He was a loyal and true friend to countless. He had a passion for long walks, provocative conversation, and growing plants and vegetables in his garden. Gary enjoyed his time with the Class of '62 Lunch Bunch, and was a member of Native Sons of the Golden West Santa Cruz Parlor #90. He gave freely of his time; helping with Project Purr and delivering turkeys for the Thanksgiving Meal at the Santa Cruz Veteran's Hall. If you needed it, he probably had it, and if you wanted something done, he'd take care of it. Gary was THE "Go To Guy". Gary is survived by his daughter, Giuliana, his brother, Lonnie, his sister and brother-in-law, Dawn and Jim Harrold; sisters-in-law, Tina and Wanda; and aunts, Nellie and Frances; nieces and nephews: Cindy, Tyrene, Benny, Robin, Michele, Skip, Sandy, Brenda, Mickie, and extended family in Texas. Gary also leaves his beloved companion, Laura Gerkensmeyer. A farewell is planned for Gary on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Blair Ranch on Granite Creek Road in Scotts Valley.
