Obituary of John Vincent Lippi

John Lippi Sr. passed away at home on November 26, 2011 at the age of 85, of natural causes, surrounded by his loving family. John was born and raised in Santa Cruz. He attended Santa Cruz High School before serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during WWII at the age of 18. He then, served Naval Reserve for 5 years, and right after that he worked at Lonestar Cement in Davenport for 38 years. He held many different positions at Lonestar Cement, retiring as a physical tester. John was a long time member of Holy Cross Church and he was a founding member of the Family of St. Joseph at the Oblates of St. Joseph. He was also a lifetime member, and longest serving member, of the Marconi Club since 1946. John was a member of the Market Street Senior Center and the Grey bears. John enjoyed walking on West Cliff Drive and talking to the neighbors along the way. He liked playing Bingo, playing cards with his grandkids and going camping. He also enjoyed, over the years, gambling in Casinos. He loved going to his grandkids sporting events and he liked to travel with the Marconi Club. John was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Rita, his father, Louie Lippi and his mother, Rose Lippi. He is survived by his two sisters, Rose Ferrari (and her 4 children) and Gloria Moro, his son, John Lippi Jr. and his wife Linda Lippi, grandson Nicholas Lippi and his wife Kristy (Kathy) Lippi, great-grandson, Matthew Viviani, daughter, Franca Peeples and son-in-law, Delphord Peeples, granddaughters, Nichole and Nina Peeples, and plenty of nieces, nephews and cousins. A chapel service for John will be held on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St. in Santa Cruz at 1 pm, the burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, directly following the service. The visitation will be held at the chapel on Thursday, December 1 from 5-8 pm.
