Obituary of John H. Geyer

John H. Geyer passed away on March 24, 2014, at the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital after a long struggle with heart disease. He was 70 years old. John was born in Detroit, Michigan. His family moved to Southern California when he was child and he lived there until moving to Santa Cruz with his wife, Nancy, in 1978. John served in the U.S. Navy. He was a lifelong patriot and took great pride in serving his country. John made many friends and respected colleagues during his thirty year career in the semiconductor/electronics industry. He was passionate about his work and during his career worked at many Silicon Valley Companies. John was a friendly and outgoing person. He was an active member of the Santa Cruz Elk's Lodge 824, Santa Cruz Moose Lodge 545 and American Legion Lodge 100. He was an enthusiastic sports fan. He particularly enjoyed football and followed the professional teams. John loved reading, cooking gourmet meals, fine wines, NASCAR, and classic cars. John was very well known for his love of animals and his pets were always considered part of the family. John is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Nancy L. Geyer. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Carol Barr of Santee, CA; and his niece and nephew, Jennifer Warrant and Jeffery Taylor. John will forever be remembered as a wonderful caring husband and friend. He touched the hearts of many and was respected by all. He cared deeply about his family and friends and will always be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, and generous man. John will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Anne Geyer; and his in-laws, James and Betty Barr. John's wife, Nancy, would like to thank the VA Palo Alto Health Care System's Hospice and Palliative Care doctors, nurses, aides and medical staff that were so incredibly sensitive and supportive throughout John's medical challenges, especially during the last few days of his life. Special thanks also go to Lindsay Cunningham, John's caregiver for the last year and a half, and Hospice of Santa Cruz County for the compassionate care, support and services they provided. At John's request, no services will be held and his remains will be scattered at sea. If desired, donations may be made in John's memory to the American Heart Association, the Santa Cruz SPCA (P.O.
