Obituary of Joseph Paul LaBue

Joseph Paul LaBue entered heaven on September 14, at the age of 87. He was a long time resident of Santa Cruz. Joseph was born on December 18, 1923 to Joseph and Mary LaBue in DeRidder, Louisiana. He lived in DeRidder until he entered the Army during World War II. During World War II, Joseph participated in several major battles and companies in Europe. He was awarded several decorations and citations, including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. At the end of World War II he returned to the U.S. and moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he attended Louisiana State University and obtained his B.A. degree in accounting and law. During this time he met and married Camilla Josephine Roussa, who remained his wife for 64 years. In 1948, Joseph and Camilla moved to Santa Cruz and opened his accounting practice, which he ran for 60 years. He was a member of Society of California Accountants, and St. John's Catholic Church. He was also a past member of the Rotary Club, a past commander of Santa Cruz Post 64 of the American Legion, and a past board member of the Monterey Council of the Children's Home Society. It has been said about Joseph LaBue that he was a man who took responsibility with ease, always wanted to get involved, and had great integrity. His generosity and kindness was well known by all who knew him or knew of him. He helped a great many people throughout his life, and touched a great many lives, making those lives so much more improved and enriched. He will be missed always, and always loved. Joseph is survived by; his wife Camilla; his daughters Mary LaBue, Joanne Cardoza, and Luci Schofield; his son-in-laws Joseph Cardoza, and David Schofield; his grandchildren Chase Cardoza and, Samantha & Ella Schofield; his sister Pat (Vivian) Nichols; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by; his brothers Salvador LaBue, Tony LaBue, and Mike LaBue; and his sisters Anna Sheff, Rose Milazzo Vierra, and Lucille Johnson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John's Catholic Church (120 Russell Ave., Felton, CA 95018) at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. A viewing will be held the same day at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Mausoleum.
