Obituary of John Roy Dustin

Services will be held in Santa Cruz on Monday for John "Dusty" Dustin who passed away unexpectedly at his Santa Cruz home on March 18, 2012. Born in Los Angeles, California, he was 72 years old. Dusty moved to Santa Cruz 70 years ago. He served his country in the US Army druing the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from the service, worked as a cook for some time before beginning a career as a heavy equipment operator with Lonestar Cement in Davenport. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Broilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers & Helpers, AFL-CIO. Dusty's extensive collection of firearms and knives was impressive, and he enjoyed the times at the outdoor ranges where he could display his marksmanship. He was a well known figure at local gun clubs and rifle ranges in his younger years and a member of the NRA. He and his loving wife of 46 years, Janet, were also lifetime members of the the Good Sam R.V. Club. Dusty loved to go fishing; tying his own flies, and simply enjoying the outdoors. He was very proud of being one- half Apache, and atributed his love and respect for the outdoors to his Native American heritage. He is survived by his wife, Janet, his daughter, Rose, and his son, John all of Santa Cruz. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Kenneth, Leeroy, Christina, and Andrew. Funeral services will be on Monday, March 26, at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel beginning at 1 o'clock p.m. Burial will be on Tuesday, March 27, 2011 at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, California beginning at 12:30 p.m.
