Obituary of Evelyn Webb Meck

Evelyn Webb Meck passed peacefully on August 21, 2011. She was born July 17, 1915 and had recently celebrated her 96th birthday. She spent that day eating strawberry shortcake and chocolate ice cream. Evelyn was one of six children born to Florence (Cowles) and George Webb. She grew up in Watsonville and later graduated from Palo Alto High School. Evelyn lived over 50 years in Capitola. She was married to Randolph Meck and they enjoyed many travels throughout the United States and Canada. She was a loving stepmother to Marilyn and Barbara, and a loving Grandma Evelyn to Kate, Lindsay and Megan. After retiring as a cosmetologist, she took up oil painting, attended art classes, and later turned her shop into an art studio. She found great joy in painting, and in the friendships of her fellow artists, especially her dear friend Edith Perry. She was a dedicated and gifted gardener who always wore her hat, and nurtured everything under her care. Evelyn lived all of her life with grace and dignity. She was especially blessed to have the care of Cyndi, Lois, Diana, and Rosa in her later years. She is survived by her brother Stanley Webb (Menlo Park), her sister-in-law Ann (Earl) Webb (Capitola), step-daughters Marilyn Gurtner (Texas) and Barbara Meck (Aptos), grand daughters Kate, Lindsay and Megan Ramaekers, 7 nieces, and 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Randolph Meck, sister Mildred Staub, and brothers Arthur, Gordan and Earl Webb. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
