Obituary of Florence Kuo

Florence passed away peacefully in Scotts Valley with her loving family at her side on Jan 16 following a yearlong battle with cancer. Born in Shandong Province, China, she moved to the Bay Area in 1963 and then to Santa Cruz in 1969. Florence had a sincere, deep passion to help anyone in need, and for 26 years was an RN at Dominican Hospital. While there, she began coordinating home care for parents of friends and colleagues and continued to do so after retiring from Dominican. Florence will be forever remembered for her dedication to her Christian faith, always trusting in God in every situation. She attended the Church in Santa Cruz, then Santa Cruz Bible Church. There she joined Knit Wits, a group that knits hats and scarves to donate to those in need. In addition to her passion for knitting, Florence enjoyed exercising at La Madrona and caring for her garden. Florence demonstrated her devotion to her family as a wonderful, kind, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She leaves her son, Francis Kuo, O.D. (Julie), and three daughters, Grace Kuo, O.D. (Martin Guevara, O.D.), Irene Cummings, and Rachel Kuo. Florence (Popo) is also survived by her ten precious grandchildren: Alec, Melanie, Becca, Matthew, Michael, Joshua, Steven, Ryan, Hannah, and Jacob. The family would like to thank all those who provided care for Florence throughout her illness, including all of her sweet caregivers, Dominican Home Health, Dr. Edwards and Dr. Yeh, and Hospice of Santa Cruz. Florence will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park beside her husband David Kuo, who preceded her in death Jan 2013. A memorial service will be held at Santa Cruz Bible Church on Saturday, Jan 25 at 1pm. Any kind acts of charity can be made in her memory to Santa Cruz Bible Church, Dominican Hospital, and/or Dominican Home Health.
