Obituary of Cade LaDell Stewart

Cade LaDell "Dell" Stewart passed away on January 19th. He was born January 7th, 1926 in Quitman, LA to Edna and Floyd Stewart. Dell grew up on the family's self-sufficient farm. He attended Quitman Grammar and High School, graduating in May of 1943, then attended Port Arthur College, where he studied radio. He joined the Navy in 1944 and attended Landing Craft School in Coronado. He was then sent to the Naval Training Station in San Diego and later to Morro Bay. From there he was assigned to Ship USS-LST #40 and participated in the Okinawa invasion. After the Navy, he attended LA Tech and LSU. With the encouragement of his brother, he attended and graduated from Fresno State in 1950 with a B.A. and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. In 1949 he married Mary Micciancio. They had three children, Bob, France and Mark. Mary passed away in 1968. In 1952 he was accepted at USC where he was president of his freshman class. He was a member of Skull and Mortar Honorary Society and later a member of Skull and Dagger. He was editor of USC's 75th Commemorative Yearbook. As a student he sat on the California Pharmaceutical Association Board. He graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy in 1956 and was a Trojan Lifetime Alumni Associate member. After graduation he worked as a relief pharmacist. He then purchased his first pharmacy, Stewart's Professional Pharmacy, in 1958, followed by three others, all specializing in ostomy and hospital supplies. Over a period of time, he assisted in the development of Unit Dose, a unique method for servicing nursing home patients, in Fresno and Tulare County. In August of 1972 he married Mary Lou Maurhoff, Dean of Girls at McLane High School in Fresno. Throughout the next 40 years, in addition to his professional work in pharmacy, he became involved in real estate and development-- investing and building various projects. In 1976 he and Mary Lou purchased a second home in Santa Cruz, which they later made their permanent home. Surviving are his wife Mary Lou, sisters Marie MacMillan of Quitman, LA, Barbara Warren of Corcina, Texas, son Robert LaDell of Fresno, daughter France Gentile of Fresno, son Mark Stewart of Aptos, and six grandchildren: Allison Mansuri, Jessica Scroggin of Fresno, Robert Cade Stewart of Santa Clara, Mary Stewart of Roseville, Vincent Gentile, Hermosa Beach, and Nico Gentile, San Diego. His two Great Grandchildren are Jordan Stewart and Aleena Mansuri. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, (1050 Cayuga St. Santa Cruz). A second visitation will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 also from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at. Farewell Funeral Service (660 West Locust Street in Fresno, CA). Graveside services will follow on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at St. Peter's Cemetery (264 Blythe Avenue in Fresno, CA) beginning at 12:00 noon. Services are under the direction of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz, CA and Farewell Funeral Service in Fresno, CA..
