Obituary of Helen Susan Carlberg

A private memorial service and burial was held in Los Gatos for Helen Carlberg who passed away peacefully on July 29, 2012. Born in Lake Park, Iowa, she was 97 years old. Raised with ten brothers and sisters on her family's farm, she married Alfred (Pat) Weaver in 1936. Helen's only daughter, Colleen (Weaver) McDiarmid, was born in Lake Park, Iowa in 1937 and the family moved to Storm Lake Iowa in 1942. Her husband Pat was killed in WWII after a Kamikaze fighter pilot attacked his ship. She later remarried Leslie Carlberg and the two moved to Los Gatos, California in 1978 to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Leslie preceded her in death in 1981. Helen was a talented athlete who competed in high school basketball as a young girl, and enjoyed bowling until the age of 89. She was an avid sports fan and followed the Giants and 49ers until her final days. She is survived by her daughter and son in-law, three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; her sister, Ardith Ehret of Lake Park, Iowa and numerous loving nieces, and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her two husbands and her brothers, Frank, Virgil, Roy, Joe, Mike, Jim and Paul, and her sisters, Emma and Angeline.
