Obituary of John Edwin Hastings

John E. Hastings John E. Hastings passed away on November 11, 2011 at his home in Santa Cruz. He was 84. He was born in Donora, Pennsylvania on May 1, 1927 the son of John H. Hastings and Dorothy Ogden Hastings. John grew up in Longmont, Colorado and was a graduate of Dumas High School. He also lived in Texas and later moved to California and has been a resident of Santa Cruz for the past 54 years. John served in the U.S. Navy during World War Two. He has worked as an oil worker, a mill right and a farmer. In his spare time he enjoyed deep sea fishing, carpentry and collecting. He is survived by his son, Jerome Hastings; daughter, Joann Hastings Colombo; brother, Steve Hastings; and step-children, Rand Nowell, Janelle Nowell and Kenric Nowell; He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Charlotte Nowell Hastings in 1990 and his son, James Hastings in 2003. A graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, 2271 7th Ave., Santa Cruz, CA on January 14, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Contributions are preferred to American Cancer Society, P.O.
