Daniel Urioste

Obituary of Daniel James Urioste

Daniel James Reyes Urioste passed away in Santa Cruz from respiratory complications of the H1 N1 flu virus, 6 days after celebrating his 60th birthday in Dominican Hospital. He was proud to be a Santa Cruz native, and leaves many close friends locally. Daniel was a talented athlete while attending Santa Cruz High School; participating in many sports including football, basketball, and track. He worked a variety of jobs including Pacific Coast Produce, Santa Cruz Yacht harbor, and Kolb Construction. His friends and co-workers will remember him as an energetic worker who enjoyed helping others. Daniel loved both the ocean (sailing, fishing, and boogie boarding), and music throughout his life. He especially loved his recent job at Moe's Alley, working as Dan, Dan the Hospitality Man. Other fond memoieres were his work with the Monterey Bay Reggae Fest, and the Aptos Blues Fest. For many years, he and his significant other, Vicki West, hosted a block party on the first Saturday of May at their home. Daniels smile and spirit will be greatly missed by those who loved him. He did not want a funeral, rather wished to encourage all of his family and friends to celebrate his life by coming together while you are enjoying the ocean and some good music. Our consolation is in knowing that he came to realize at the end of his life, how many people really loved him. A private cremation is under the direction of Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
