Obituary of David George Delucchi

David George Delucchi passed away on May 27, 2012 in Santa Cruz. He was 82. David was born in Santa Cruz on May 6, 1930 to Gino and Jennie Delucchi. He grew up in Santa Cruz and attended Happy Valley Elementary, Mission Hill Junior High and Santa Cruz High School. He later attended Hartnell Junior College, and was a graduate of San Jose State. He served in the US Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War. During which time he was stationed on the USS LST836 and USS Washburn 108. David worked at Lockheed Martin for 34 years in various engineering positions. He was involved in the Agena, Polaris, Trident and Milstar programs as well as other classified programs during his career. He retired as the manager of Integration and test on the Hubble Space Telescope. David loved attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events, either in the stands, or as a coach, time keeper, or score keeper. He spent over 30 years coaching youth sports, primarily baseball and softball. He spent 23 years involved in Santa Cruz Little League, as a coach from T-ball to Colt League. He also served for many years on the various league boards, as well as, being on the founding board of Marello Preparatory High School. He was a season ticket holder from 1970 to present of the San Francisco 49ers and was an avid Giants and A's fan. He was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman. David enjoyed family get-togethers, BBQ's, pool parties, and really any time spent with family. In his retirement he harvested pears and apples from the farm he owns with his brother. He could also be counted on whenever anyone needed his help or time. He was always there whether it was homework, carpools, repairs, or home maintenance. David was an honest and fair man; he was generous to a fault. David leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy Delucchi; his children, Diane Barbic (George), George Delucchi, Jeannie Smith (Garrett) and Mary K. Delucchi; his grandchildren, Erik Barbic (Shayna), Lindsay Barbic, Leigh Smith, Melissa Smith, Adrienne Smith, Jessie Smith, David Delucchi and Kaitlin Delucchi; his great grandchildren, Kyle Barbic, Tyler Delucchi and Evany Smith; his brother, Richard Delucchi; and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Gino and Jennie Delucchi. Services will be held for David on Saturday, June 9th at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to St. Jude's Hospital at 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; the American Heart Association at PO Box 742030, Los Angeles, CA 90074-2030; or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd floor, Bethesda, Maryland 20814.
