Mark Levine

Obituary of Mark Harvey Levine

Mark Harvey Levine passed away gently in the arms of his loving wife, Deborah Reisman, after an indefatigable race against pancreatic cancer. He faced the challenge of this disease with the same sweet courage and zest for life he showed in everything he did, trying novel therapies and enrolling in a clinical trial to extend the life he loved. In his last weeks he was surrounded by the family he adored: his parents Estelle and Arnold Levine of Santa Cruz, his brother and sister-in-law Mitch and Kristen Levine, his sister and brother-in-law Joy and David Spodick, his sons Kevin and Daniel Levine, his stepdaughter Chloe Reisman, his sister-in-law Phyllis Kasparian, his brother-in-law Marc Reisman, and many, many precious friends. Mark worked right up until the afternoon of his hospitalization, and was tireless in his enthusiasm for making a contribution, whether it was on the job, helping friends and neighbors, serving at his synagogue, or doing anything and everything he could for his family. A service will be held at Temple Beth Torah in Fremont, followed by internment at the Home of Peace Cemetery in Santa Cruz, the city where he was born. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to: The Rose Levine Memorial Campership Fund through Temple Beth El, pancan.org (pancreatic cancer research and support), CarePages.com (which allowed us to stay connected with our family and friends), Temple Beth Torah (Fremont) prayer book fund, or the Stanford Clinical Cancer Center in gratitude to Dr. George Fisher. We send our special gratitude to all of our dear friends who were tireless in their support and prayers. The family also sends messages of deep appreciation to the amazing and kind people from Pathways Hospice, who helped to ensure that Mark was able to spend his last days at home in comfort and surrounded by the love of his family.
