Obituary of LaVerne Frances Agler

LaVerne Frances Agler A funeral mass will be celebrated on April 20th in Capitola for LaVerne Agler who passed away on April 6, 2012 at Dominican Hospital with her family at her bedside. She had recently celebrated her 82nd birthday on March 20. Born in San Jose, California, she attended Notre Dame High School and San Jose State. As a third generation Santa Clara Valley native, she was proud of her California heritage. LaVerne moved to the Santa Cruz area 36 years ago, and was an active parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Capitola. She was an accomplished traveler, and with her husband Jack, visited many destinations including Mexico, Hawaii, Bora Bora, touring the Fall foliage of the East Coast, and spending time in Europe. LaVerne leaves many dear friends in her group that met regularly at the Capitola Pier for beach walks, and her girlfriends at the Tuesday and Friday afternoon card games. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, DeWitt "Jack" Agler of Capitola, her daughter, Susie Cruz of Capitola, and her sons and daughter in-law, Craig Agler of Capitola, and Chris and Gwen Agler of Soquel. LaVerne also leaves her three grandsons, Ryan and Brett Agler and Clifton Volstorff; and her very dear friend Gerry Albers. The mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (435 Monterey Ave.) Capitola CA on April 20 at 11:00 AM and a reception at the church will follow. The committal will be private. Any kind acts of charity may be made in her name to the St. Joseph's Church Elevator Fund, which will provide access for persons with disabilities.
