Obituary of Barry Joseph Earl

Barry Joseph Earl passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 3, 2013 while at work in his beloved garden. His warm smile and quirky wit will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Maureen Earl; his stepchildren Marilyn (Terry) Lunt, James (Yoko) McMillin and Linda (Jeff) Whitman; his nieces Michelle (Brian) Zehring and Amanda Osburn; and numerous grandchildren, great-nephews, great-nieces and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Eric and his older brother Trevor Earl. Barry was born in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia on November 25, 1934. He lived primarily in Queensland and worked for the Postal Service and drove a truck for Bushells Tea, the makers of Australia's finest teas. Barry came to the United States in 1980 and proudly became a U. S. citizen in 1986. Barry was a parishioner at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. He was professed into the Secular Franciscan Order (Laity) on October 12, 1997 and was a member of the Family of St. Joseph. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Santa Cruz Council 971 and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. A mass of Christian burial will be conducted Friday, May 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Frederick Street in Santa Cruz. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
