Obituary of Auburn Elmo Anderson

Auburn died from respiratory failure on December 21, 2012 at Dominican Hospital. He was born on June 22, 1938 in Bishop, Virginia in a log house built by his great grandfather in the latter part of the 19th century. At an early age, the family moved to Radford, Virginia where he grew up. When he was seventeen, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served for 10 years. Among his duty stations were Okinawa, Quantico Virginia, the U.S. Embassy in Damascus Syria, and Camp LeJeune in North Carolina. While serving at the embassy in Damascus, he met and married his wife Wadad in 1963. After leaving the Marine Corp he and his wife Wadad settled in Santa Cruz. He worked a short time for a tire manufacturing company in Salinas, and then got a job with PG&E in the gas department where he became a backhoe operator until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, especially bowl turning, as a hobby. He produced some nice pieces of furniture and cabinet work along with many beautiful bowls. For the last 10 years of his life he provided care in their home for his wife who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. He was preceded in death his parents Elmo and Margaret Anderson. He is survived by his wife Wadad Anderson, his brother Robert S. Anderson, one nephew, two nieces and an aunt. There will be no services planned and he will be cremated. After his wife passes away, she will be cremated and their ashes will be scattered together at sea.
