Obituary of Irving - Winnick

Irv Winnick passed away at his home in Santa Cruz on September 20, 2012, with his family by his side. He was 86. Irv was born in Des Moines, Iowa on February 17, 1926, the son of Louis and Rose Winnick. He grew up in Des Moines and moved to the Fairfax area of Los Angeles in his early teens. He was a graduate of Fairfax High School and later attended electronics trade school. He served in the U.S. Army, post - World War Two. He was stationed at White Sands, New Mexico during the first rocket tests. In 1952 Irv moved to Santa Cruz where he opened Santa Cruz Electronics. Irv was a craftsman, enjoyed welding and building things, big or small. He was an avid photographer, he enjoyed art, stained glass, woodworking and cooking. He was a member of Temple Beth El, the Santa Cruz Elks Lodge #824 and a long time and devoted member of the Santa Cruz Lions. His greatest joy was spending time with his family he could be often hear saying, "I'm happiest when all my kids are together with me". He is survived by his children, Gary Winnick, Ronald Winnick and Linda Ray; he is also survived by seven grandchildren, one niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Winnick in 1996, his second wife, Ethel Teller in 2007 and his brother, Jack Winnick in 2009. Services will be held at Temple Beth El, 3055 Porter Gulch Rd, Aptos, CA on October 5, 2012 at 11:00 am. Arrangements are under the direction of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
