Obituary of Barry Wood

Barry D. Wood A celebration of life will be held January 14th for Barry Wood who passed away unexpectedly at his Bonny Doon home on January 7, 2011, at the age of 64. He was born October 7, 1946 in Tulare, California. His friends and family affectionately knew him as "Bear." He attended high school in Hayward and Fremont, became an Eagle Scout and served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War. Barry earned the rank of Corporal as a decorated Marine for saving a fellow soldier from drowning. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara in Communications before moving to Santa Cruz over 40 years ago. Barry had a career in automobile sales in Santa Cruz that spanned over 23 years. He worked for Ocean Chevrolet and later Marina Motor Company. Barry was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 38 of Santa Cruz. His passions included surfing, golfing, fishing, and skiing. He loved to travel, and many fond memories of the trips to Costa Rica, Maui, and countries around the world will be forever cherished. He loved his family and the times they shared at home in Bonny Doon. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Gwendolyn Wood. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Denice Wood (Nicki) of Bonny Doon, his son, Tyler Wood of Bonny Doon, his daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and James Sanders and his granddaughter, Claire Sanders, all of Ben Lomond. Barry also leaves behind many loving extended family members especially his mother and father in-law Ardis and Richard Deane of Santa Cruz. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at the family home in Bonny Doon at 2 p.m. on January 14th.
