Obituary of Simon Rodriguez Gutierrez

Simon Rodriguez Gutierrez passed away at home on November 30, 2012 at the age of 82. He was born February 15, 1930 to Pedro Gutierrez & Eulalia Rodriguez. He grew up as a farmer in Durango Mexico then migrated to the United States in early 1960's with the Bracero Program. During his time in Santa Cruz he worked for local mushroom plants. It was also during this time that Simon married his wife Antonia, and, together they would raise 3 children Simon always had a love for his family and his animals. During his life he raised rabbits, had two parakeets and two dogs who were his companions (Lobo and Oliver). He enjoyed riding his bicycle around the neighborhood, taking walks to the park and visiting with friends. Simon enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren, who he helped raise, and he was also blessed with 4 great grandchildren, which brought him great joy. Simon is survived by; his children Manuel Guttierez & his wife Hilaria Torrez, Javier Morales & his wife Ofelia, &his daughter Trinidad Delgado; his grandchildren Angelica Gutierrez, Julia Rodriguez, Erika Morales, Cecilia Morales; his great grandchildren Aaliyah , Anaya, Marcos Jr.,Javi; and his siblings Santiago Gutierrez, Trinidad Gutierrez, Santos Perales, Juana Gutierrez. Simon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years Antonia. There will be a public visitation on Thursday, December 6th beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Pacific Gardens Chapel (1050 Cayuga St. Santa Cruz, CA 95062) with the recitation of the Holy Rosary to begin at 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 7th beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church (126 High St. Santa Cruz, CA 95062)
