Anne Hoffseth

Obituary of Anne Elizabeth Hoffseth

Anne "Betty" Hoffseth was born February 28, 1922 in Oakland, California and passed away on June 6, 2011 in Aptos, California. She was born to Ida Bodin and Harding McKenzie and later moved to Santa Rosa, California where she completed her schooling. She met our Dad, James Hoffseth, at a USO dance when she was 21 years old and it was love at first sight. Mom and Dad married and then Dad went into WWII and was stationed overseas. When he returned they started their family in Santa Rosa with son John, daughter Anne and son Lee. Dad worked as an accountant and Mom went back to work when her children were in school as a private secretary. We moved to Santa Cruz in 1962, so my Dad could go into the Real Estate business. Mom spent many years working for Plaza Books. Dad passed away in 1975. After that Mom moved to a mobile home park in Capitola and spent many happy years with her friends there. She also took up hand quilting at that time and every family member has a handmade quilt from her. She was working on one for her 3rd great-grandchild when she passed away. She is survived by her children, John (Lonnie) Hoffseth, Ann (Frank) Fleisig, and Lee (Karen) Hoffseth. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Luke Hoffseth, Kate (Shannon) Gaither, Mark (Jennifer) Hoffseth, Beth (Jason) Crowe, Jenny Hoffseth, Kevin Hoffseth, Sarah (Jason) Powers and Kirk Fleisig. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Ellie Gaither, Emily Crowe, Jaxon Hoffseth and soon to be born Maddie Gaither. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Congregational Church of Soquel or the American Cancer Society. The Memorial Service will be held at the Congregational Church of Soquel on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 3 pm.
