Lilly Birchenall

Obituary of Lilly Shouse Birchenall

An accomplished traveler, she visited many distant places including Africa (going on safari and sleeping in tents), Europe, and China. She would tell friends of the story when she became lost for a brief time on the Great Wall of China. Lilly relocated to Masonic Homes of California in 1999, and continued her travels, this time to Central America and through the Panama Canal. She leaves many dear friends at Paradise Park in Santa Cruz, where she also volunteered her time at the park office. She loved children, and although never had her own, was known as the "Cookie Lady" to many youngsters who loved her and will miss her. She loved to play bridge, and went on walks daily with friends. Friends are invited to attend a service on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz, beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Howard Sidney Birchenall who preceded her in death in 1991. Any kind acts of charity may be made to Goodwill Industries 350 Encinal St., Santa Cruz, CA 95060 or Masonic Homes 34400 Mission Blvd., Union City, CA 94587.
