Obituary of Harold Gordon Clements

Services will be on April 28 in San Jose for Harold Gordon Clements who passed away in Santa Cruz on April 13, 2013 from complications of a stroke that he suffered on Christmas Day. Born in Bakersfield, California, he was 87 years old. Mr. Clements was raised in various towns in the San Joaquin Valley as a youth, and became a long time resident of Palo Alto. Following his graduation from Palo Alto High School, he entered the US Navy and served his country in WW II. Mr. Clements worked as an aircraft mechanic with NACA, and continued with the program as it later became NASA. His career in aerospace and aviation spanned over 30 years. A talented handyman, he loved the challenge of fixing things. Fishing was one his greatest passions. Many fond memories will be cherished by his family and fishing buddies of adventures with catch and release steelhead in all parts of California, 20 years of vacation salmon fishing in Alaska, and making custom fishing rods. He and his wife were long time members of First United Methodist Church in San Jose. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Clements, his daughter, Christine Frazer, and his son and daughter in-law, David and Jennifer Clements. He also leaves 4 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, and many loving extended family members. Mr. Clements was preceded in death by his father Henry Clements in 1955, his mother, Katherine Clements Stringer in 1967, and his daughter, Caren Clements in 1993. The memorial service will be on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church 405 S. 10th Street, San Jose, CA, beginning at 2 p.m. A light supper and fellowship will immediately follow the ceremony. A private scattering at sea will take place on Monday, April 29th.
