Obituary of William Butler

William H. Butler Services will be held in Santa Cruz on August 11, for William H. Butler who passed away at his Aptos home on July 24, 2010. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was 92 years old. Bill and his wife Muriel have lived in Santa Cruz County for the past 43 years. Before retiring to Santa Cruz County, Bill was an electrical engineer with Commonwealth Edison, and his career in public utilities spanned over 35 years. He served his country in the US Army during WW II seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge as a member of the Abraham Lincoln 84th Division, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was an avid sailor, and was also very good ice skater. In his later years, he enjoyed hiking and gardening. An accomplished woodworker, he created many beautiful furnishings. Bill had the patience to be a skilled handyman and would repair just about anything for his friends. He was supportive in his role as B.I.L. with his wife's sisterhood, P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization). A memorial service will be held at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz on Wednesday, august 11, 2010, beginning at 2 p.m. Private committal will take place at a later date at The San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, California. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County or to your favorite charity.
