Obituary of Wilbur Everett Jones

Wilbur "Bud" Everett Jones passed away just before midnight at home, in Santa Cruz, CA on Sunday, August 4, 2013, with his wife and daughters by his side. He was 85 years old. Bud was born on February 7, 1928 to Thomas and Grace Jones in Glendale, CA. He attended T. Roosevelt Jr. High, Hoover Sr. High School, Glendale City College and UCLA. Bud joined the Navy and fought in World War II from 1945-1949. He served on the USS Hancock, USS Alabama, USS Lexington and the USS Bronx receiving the China Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He reactivated for the Korean Conflict in 1951 and 1952 attached to Ordnance Facility, Sasabo, Japan. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Bud was employed by Lockheed-Martin in Burbank, CA in 1953 as a structures engineer and in 1973 transferred to Lockheed Missiles and Space in Sunnyvale, CA. Bud married Evelyn Callanan in South Pasadena, CA on September 22, 1956. The purchased their first home in Tujunga, CA in 1957 where they later welcomed their two daughters, Teresa and Pamela. In 1974 the family relocated to Scotts Valley, CA where Bud and Evelyn resided until April 2013. Bud was involved in San Agustin Catholic Community, Scotts Valley Senior Center and the Scotts Valley Sportsman's Club. After retiring from Lockheed Bud became a Docent at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. He enjoyed 16 years and some 6000 hours guiding and educating visitors before retiring in March 2012 as an Emeritus Member. Bud also enjoyed reading, playing bocce ball, Bridge, hunting, classic car shows, bowling, cruises, snow skiing and visiting family and friends. His travels brought him around the world while in the service and later to Ireland, Hawaii, on many Caribbean cruises and his trip of a lifetime with Evelyn to Kenya, Africa. Bud is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 56 years, his daughters, Teresa Schumann, Comfrey, MN, Pamela (Patrick) Cerruti, Watsonville, CA and his twin sister Wilma O'Regan, Lincoln, CA. Bud also leaves behind his 5 grandchildren Michael Schumann, Rachel Schumann, Tracy (Michael) Schumacher, Krista (Jeremy) Schmidt, Jessie (Levi) Jungwirth, 4 great-grandchildren Kayleigh Schumann, Olivia Schumann, Liam and Logan Jungwirth and many nieces, nephews and friends. The holy Rosary will be recited at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, CA, on Friday August 9, 2013 at 6:30 pm. Friends are invited to call at the chapel on Friday between the hours of 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at San Agustin Catholic Church 257 Glenwood Dr., Scotts Valley, CA, on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11:00 am. A private interment with full military honors will be held at a later date.
