Obituary of George Francisco Oliviera

A recitation of the Holy Rosary and the Mass of the Resurrection will be held in Santa Cruz on Sunday and Monday for George Oliveira who passed away at his Santa Cruz home on December 3, 2012 at the age of 84. His loving family was at his bedside at the time of his passing. George was born in Ripon, California, and moved to Santa Cruz 77 years ago. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who dedicated himself in providing for his loved ones. From his early teens, George worked as a paperboy and woodcutter. In his early adulthood, he was a line worker in a box factory, and glasscutter. For more than 20 years, George worked as a butcher for Walti -Schilling Meat Packing Company in Santa Cruz. He left a loving legacy in his teachings of devotion to family and to God, and hard work ethics. His motto: "It's not how much you make that counts -It's how much you save." will be cherished and fondly remembered by all whom he loved. The last 40 years of his life, George's passion was for restoring Model "A" automobiles. He was a long time member of the Santa Cruz Model "A" Club, and will be missed by many dear friends and colleagues who shared in his love for these cars. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Toni Oliveira of Santa Cruz, his two daughters and their spouses Tanya and Heather Pritt of Albany, OR; and Judy and Steve Piffero of Santa Cruz. George also leaves two sons; Steve White of Santa Cruz, Joe White, and his spouse Deanna of Modesto; his brother, Tony Oliveira of Upper Lake County, CA; twelve loving grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Betty Ann Jones; brothers, Tony and Henry Oliveira, and his sister Dorothy Cole all whom resided in Santa Cruz County. The Rosary will be at 5 p.m. on Sunday evening December 9, 2012 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 10, at Holy Cross Church (126 High Street) in Santa Cruz beginning at 10 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Mausoleum following the mass.
