Barbara Hosick

Obituary of Barbara Hosick

Kathy peacefully passed away in her Santa Cruz home at the age of 70. Kathy was born in Palo Alto, CA to the late Royal and Mary Tunnell. She grew up in Mountain View and graduated from Los Altos high school. She is survived by husband Daryl Hosick, son Eric Hosick, daughter in law Thuy Hosick, daughter Tiffany Hosick, grandson Alex Johnson and brother Kenneth Tunnell. Kathy spent most of her life raising her family in Santa Cruz and touched many lives through her special love of volunteering to help others. For many years Kathy served on the Board of Directors of the Battered Woman's Shelter and was very involved in the Women's Crisis Support Center. She was very proud of collecting toys and necessities to help children as they entered the shelter with their mother. Kathy was very active in the Santa Cruz Jr. Woman's Club and later the Santa Cruz Woman's Club. She served many terms in various offices including president. Again, in her quest to help others, she spent many hours planning and working on fund raising activities to raise money for student scholarships. Kathy was very active in local politics -- serving several terms as president of the Santa Cruz Republican Woman's club. She was elected to the Santa Cruz Republican Central Committee and vigorously served three terms. During her tenure she worked on local political campaigns and attended numerous California State Republican Conventions where she was actively engaged in creating and voting on the Republican Party platform. Kathy did take time for personal activities and spent many hours with her extended family documenting good times in a collection of family scrapbooks. She also collected antiques and for several years participated in local craft shows selling Macramé. Of course Kathy also took pride in her immediate family and always found time to be with her family. She was very close to her husband and children and, later, her grandson. Many years of camping, traveling, good old fashioned family gatherings, and the time just being together, will be cherished forever. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Friends may pay their respects at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel (1050 Cayuga Street, Santa Cruz), on Friday May 31, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Kathy's funeral ceremony will be Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the chapel, beginning at 2 p.m. Burial services are private.
