Eleanor Bohan

Obituary of Eleanor May Bohan

Whether you called her Eleanor, Ellie, Rook, Auntie, GG, Grandma or Mom, she loved you and she knew you loved her. Eleanor May Bohan was born 95 years ago in Fennimore, Wisconsin to Emil and Grace Ruchti. She and her younger sister Margaret Coffee Zimmerman spent a life time making wonderful memories. What a lady! What a life! Her motto "if you look hard enough, you can find good in everyone." Her much loved children: twins, Margaret Berke and son-in-law, Ian, and Mary McPherson and son-in-law, Bruce, and her son, Michael Bohan and daughter-in-law, Sheri, attest she always saw the best in everyone. Ellie always had a smile on her face, a twinkle in her eye, joy in her step, love in her heart and she played a wicked hand of bridge. In high school, she was a cheerleader and number one on the debate team. She met the love of her life, Felix Bohan, at the University of Wisconsin. After graduation and Fe's army commission, they were married in San Antonio, Texas. This love affair lasted 58 years and they are now re-united in heavenly bliss. Ellie taught high school English and debate before starting a family. They reared their children in West Covina, CA, retired to Los Osos, CA and at the age of 91 she relocated to Santa Cruz to be near her family. They traveled to many places in the world, exploring areas before they were popular. Ellie was an avid poet and writer. She was always thrilled when her work was published! To Ellie, no one was a stranger. She welcomed everyone in her home. She has left her family and friends a wonderful legacy of how to live life: joy, laughter, adventure, hard work, acceptance, kindness, thankfulness and faith. Her family was her pride and joy; she always put them first. She will be long loved and remembered by her children, as well as her grandchildren: Tori Kistler and grandson-in-law, Dave, Hunter McPherson, Amber Schnaider and grandson-in-law, Matt, Ryan Bohan, Sean Bohan and great grandchildren Cooper Hunter Kistler, Sydney McPherson Kistler, Teresa Elaine Schnaider and Steven Francis Schnaider. Bon Voyage to a great LADY! Here's to her "New Adventure!" We loved her so much!
