Obituary of Robert Wrestling Brewster

With his family by his side, Robert Wrestling Brewster A.K.A. Jack, Passed away peacefully on January 3, 2013 after a long illness. Bob was born in Berkeley , California to Ruth and Clarence Brewster. He attended Berkeley High School. Bob joined the merchant marines at the age of 20, receiving his basic training at Catalina Island. He earned the rank of chief engineer and returned to the bay area upon his discharge in 1946. Bob first worked as a service manager in car sales in Berkeley and then worked as a salesman in the bakery industry for more than 30 years throughout the bay area. Bob was a single Dad living and raising his children in Millbrae. He learned to upholster, sew, iron, and became a "really" good cook. He was a talented master woodcrafter and made beautiful furniture including chests, chairs and desks. Bob retired to Santa Cruz in 1986 and made many dear friends. He was a member of the Santa Cruz Elks Lodge and S.I.R.S. Bob met his wife Jean 24 years ago and they married in 1990. They were avid dancers and have many wonderful memories of their outings with their amazing group of friends. Bob's 90th birthday party at Severino's will be forever cherished, where he danced the night away with all the ladies. He was a happy man who smiled his way through life and truly enjoyed it. Good humor was always present. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jean Whalen Brewster, his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Jeanina Brewster and his granddaughter Jennifer of Pollock Pines, California. Bob also leaves Jean's daughters and sons and their spouses. Meg Whalen and John Meder, Lawrence Whalen and Cali James, Rob and Sarah Whalen, Julie and Ed Bogner, John and Donna Marie Whalen and his grandchildren: Lindsey Bogner, Matthew Bonger, Blake Bogner, Alyssa Whalen Jonathan Whalen, Scott Meder, Hannah Whalen and James Whalen. He will be sorely missed by all due to his sweet disposition and his fun ways. He was preceded in death by his brother Earl and his daughter Corinne. A celebration of Bob's life will be forthcoming at a later date. The family would like to thank Calleen Baca for all her help and loving care, sitting at his bedside for the last 6 months. Also Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. The Alzheimer's association support group and Drifwood staff during Bob's time there.
