Hazel Ball

Obituary of Hazel Earle Ball

Hazel E. Ball passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on Wednesday, April 25, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born in New Orleans, LA, the daughter of Hazel E. Nelson and the late John P. Bond. At the age of seven she moved to the Santa Cruz area where she resided for most of her life. Hazel was the first chair violinist at Santa Cruz High School, and loved the beach and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, where she worked in the summers growing up. Hazel found her calling in nursing and devotedly worked with the elderly for many years at the Driftwood Nursing home. Hazel is survived by her mother, Hazel E. Nelson; her sons Christopher Ball and Eric Ball; her sister Betty S. Montgomery; her brother John M. Bond; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hazel was known for her sharp wit and a great sense of humor. She loved a good political cartoon, Masterpiece Theater, and See's Candy. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers a contribution to the Heartland Hospice Services in Capitola or Breast Cancer research would be greatly appreciated.
