Obituary of Louis Garcia

LOUIS GARCIA Services will be held in Santa Cruz on Thursday for Louis Garcia who passed away peacefully at his Santa Cruz home on March 14 with his family at his bedside. Born on May 1, 1923 in Juarez, Mexico he was 88 years old. Mr. Garcia moved to Los Angeles as a young child. There he met Cecilia Martinez, and the couple was married in 1951. Moving to Santa Cruz in 1956, Louis opened "Unique Tailoring", which he continued to operate for 48 years. He was a master "Maestro" of his profession; very dedicated to the quality and craftsmanship of his trade and always striving for the quality and perfection that made his customers look good. Mr. Garcia was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, the Italian Catholic Federation, the Sea and Tree Ballroom Dance Club and he very much enjoyed working out at Toadal Fitness. Louie was an avid ballroom dancer, displaying his deep love for the art of dance while participating in numerous competitions and exhibitions. Hours spent in his tailor shop turned dance studio gave him great Joy. His family will forever cherish his ability to touch lives from all generations and walks of life with kindness, compassion and generosity of heart. All who knew him would consider him as a man of style and elegance; taking extreme pride in his family, friends, and helping those in need. He nurtured his friendships & relationships well with his deeply sincere and caring ways. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Cecilia Martinez Garcia. He is survived by his three daughters, Griselda Garcia Murillo, Marie Garcia, and Yolanda Nichols, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his devoted and loving companion of 25 years, Desnelda Whitaker. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be private. Remembrances in Mr. Garcia's name may be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County (940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, Ca. 95066) or to the charity of your choice.
