Obituary of Dolores Kathleen Pound

Dolores Kathleen Pound May 10, 1926 - February 2, 2012 Live Oak (Santa Cruz) Dolores (Del) Pound passed away peacefully on February 2, 2012 at Capitola Manor in Santa Cruz at the age of 85. Born in Langdon, North Dakota, she moved as a young child to Everett, Washington where she graduated from Everett High School. She came to Santa Cruz in 1946 to attend teleprompter school. Against her mother's advice, "Don't meet someone and stay in California," she met, and married, her husband of 43 years, Richard Pound. She kept very busy raising her children on the family chicken ranch on Chanticleer Avenue. She lived in Live Oak for 64 years. She was active with the Live Oak Fire Department Woman's Auxiliary, PTA and volunteering with the Monterey Bay Girl Scouts for 22 years. Dolores and her husband, "Dick" enjoyed traveling. They spent several years touring the United States in their R.V. They also spent time in Mexico and Canada. They fostered many long-term friendships throughout their journeys. She was a parishioner of Holy Eucharist Catholic Parish in Corralitos where she enjoyed the activities of the "Wise Acres." Dolores loved playing cards, especially, Tripoli, Dirty 8's, Puss and Boots, and 65. She also shared this love with the Tuesday Pinochle group. Her garden, where she grew beautiful flowers and vegetables, was her favorite past time. Even having a patio garden at Capitola Manor. She is survived by her children, Richard (Gail) Pound of Red Bluff, CA, Kathryn (Jim) Pini of Watsonville, and Sharon (Kris) Pound of Thompson Falls, Montana, her grandchildren Keith (Sabrina) Pound of Sacramento and Lindsay (Brad) Maddox of Red Bluff, her great grandchildren Corbin and Haylie Maddox. She is also survived by her sisters, Norma Engelbert of Poulsbo, Washington, and Donna Filbert of Gig Harbor, Washington. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her best friend Barb Driscoll and also Julie Rudge who visited most every Saturday while Dolores lived at Capitola Manor. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard "Dick" Pound in 1990. A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be on Wednesday February 8, 2012 at Holy Eucharist Catholic Church in Corralitos, beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon reception. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the caring staff at Capitola Manor who assisted Dolores with much love and compassion. Also sincere appreciation to the Hospice Team. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley CA, or to your favorite charity.
